What is a Safety Assessment?
Put simply, EU law states that all cosmetic/toiletry products offered for sale, within EU member countries, must be assessed by a suitably qualified professional person to ensure that they are safe to use. Therefore, in order to satisfy this legal requirement, if you intend to manufacture and sell a cosmetic/toiletry product, you will need to have it assessed before you can sell it.
We offer a straightforward safety assessment service for our customers.
There are two types of safety assessments that we can provide:
Multiple Assessment
This is an assessment for manufacturers who wish to produce a range of products that use the same base ingredients but vary in their additional ingredients - fragrance and colour, for example.
To purchase this, you will need to confirm that you adhere to good manufacturing practise guidelines and demonstrate an awareness of your responsibilities as a manufacturer. Also, you will need to show a sound understanding of your legal responsibilities with regard to the selling of your products.
To obtain a cold process soap assessment you will also need to have had some practical experience of the craft or to demonstrate a high level of competancy, including an understanding of the saponification process, an ability to accurately calculate soap formulations, and to confirm that you will manufacture in a safe and responsible manner.
A multiple assessment usually takes 7 days to complete. Your document will be issued in your name and will be yours to keep for good.
Bespoke Assessment
This is a service for customers with complex product formulations, formulations that require challenge testing or products for contract manufacture. We would be happy to discuss your requirements. Please contact us on 01225 899286.
